Russia Will Not Cooperate With NATO — Defense Minister
MosNews

Russia will not cooperate with NATO, Sergei Ivanov, Russia’s defense minister told the Spanish El Pais newspaper, news agencies reported Monday.

Ivanov said he did not see any areas where Russia and NATO could cooperate.

I do not think our military potentials could be united...

“Cooperating in Iraq is out of the question. Cooperating in Afghanistan is out of the question too, for historical reasons, although we provide military assistance to the country,” he was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

“The progress that we have reached seemed impossible five years ago. At the same time, I do not think our military potentials could be united,” he added.

Russia’s defense minister said one thing that could boost the level of international anti-terror cooperation was extradition of terrorists at the request of the interested state.

“Greater attention must be paid to the problem of extraditing terrorists at the request of the interested countries. We cannot stay indifferent to the violent calls we hear from the extremist organizations,” he said.

“We must not restrict civil liberties, but at the same time we should be firmer and more consistent when fighting religious extremism. In Russia we notice the policy of double standards, attempts to divide terrorists into real terrorists and fighters for freedom,” Ivanov said.

Sergei Ivanov is currently in Spain on a three-day official visit to discuss bilateral military cooperation.
