NATO existence not for assistance but for benefit of US: Munawar Hassan

ISLAMABAD: Government should unveil the pact with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) because they were not here for relief activities but for the political interests of the Israel, US and India, said central general secretary of Jamat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan.

Addressing a press conference Saturday he underlined NATO forces had never been anywhere for relief works and added that they always moved to search out their political interests.

He went on to say that presence of NATO troops in the region is only to work for the benefits of Israel, US and India and added that US could use these troops for the invasion on Iran.

About the relief commissioner he said that he is not working under the prime minister practically but under the Army general and said that relief commissioner never visited earthquake stricken areas so for added that donor’s conference was indeed a loaner’s conference in which only those countries were invited who could tender loans he termed the conference a flop show and said that this might increase debt of the country.

He emphasized that nomination of head of the relief and rehabilitation authorities should be by the parliament and said that civil administration should manage all relief operation and added that under the parliamentary system all authorities should be given to parliament and according to him only one general is authorizing general Farooq and general Zubair for all relief works.

"Nation is being mislead by confidence building measures and issue of Kashmir has been weakened by government policies from last two and half years while the Indian case has been strengthened on the Kashmir issue", he said.

He cautioned that in this wake of calamity India and Israel are here just to get a hold of their benefits and said that the joint Kashmir agenda has been formed by US and India mutually.

About the forward block in ruling party he said that there is no forward block but all blocks were backward blocks in the government and added that Musharraf wants to bring presidential system in the country but he said that he couldn’t be successful in this regard.
