The cross will lead the procession taken by the King and Queen to Westminster Abbey.
The King has been gifted a cross by the Pope in celebration of his Coronation. Pope Francis has given King Charles two shards from the True Cross, believed to be the cross Jesus Christ was crucified on. The cross is expected to lead the procession, after being incorporated into the Cross of Wales, from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the Coronation ceremony on May 6.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey via a 1.3-mile route through Parliament Square, along Whitehall, around Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and down The Mall back to Buckingham Palace.
The pieces of the cross, one being 1cm in size and the other just 5mm will be included in the Cross of Wales, a gift from the King to the Church of Wales in 2021 to mark its centenary.
