Brazilian President Lula stable after emergency brain surgery

Dec. 10 (UPI) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was listed in stable condition while in intensive care on Tuesday after undergoing emergency brain surgery to address bleeding, physicians said.

Lula, 79, was first taken to a hospital in Brasilia after complaining about a severe headache. An MRI scan identified the brain bleed and he was transported to Siro-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo to have it drained.

A hospital statement said it is believed the bleeding was caused when Lula fell in his bathroom at his presidential residence back in October.
